BIO
Andrew Machovec
I have spent the last 8 years developing and pursuing my passion in Scenic Design and Technical Production. I believe that it is critical to continue pushing my knowledge of technical theater in order to push the envelope in theater design. Through my experiences thus far, I have been able to develop intensive project management skills, attention to detail, and broad creative and technical knowledge. I have been consistently recognized as a passionate, hands-on leader with an ability to elevate those around me.
While attending the University of Notre Dame and earning a Theater degree with a supplemental degree in Pre-Health, I also worked professionally working alongside industry leaders in set design, lighting design, and technical production. These mentors encouraged me to take a leadership role both on and off campus managing large-scale projects involving up to 100 people. While working to reach this goal, I also had to balance being a scholarship athlete working tirelessly to win individually, collegiately, and for Team USA. I have received recognition and multiple awards for my scenic design work. During that same period, I helped my team to win the national championship twice in NCAA fencing and I became a two-time United States World Team qualifier. Whether in construction, design, or competing abroad, I am inherently a team-focused and determined individual regardless of the craft I am pursuing.
I am currently working as the Assistant Technical Director for Columbia Universities School of the Arts thesis program and the founding designer of Andrew Machovec Designs.
